Sometimes called bee sage or sacred sage, Salvia Apiana is a plant which grows in coastal southern California, Mexico, and the Mojave and Sonoran deserts. When the leaves are burned (a process called “sage smudging”) the smoke is considered sacred and used to ward of negative energies and bring blessings of health and prosperity. White sage smoke has a light earthy, herbal aroma.
To use, light the end of the stick and allow to burn for about 30 seconds or 1 minute and then blow out. Allow the smoke to permeate your space. You can place in a small bowl or dish of non-flammable material to slowly diffuse throughout your home. Sage does not continuously burn like other incense. One bundle of sage can be relit and used many times.
